With China’s reform and opening up, the footwear industry in Jieyang City has formed a regional characteristic industrial cluster mainly in Rongcheng District, developing rapidly and expanding in scale. Statistics show that the city’s average annual plastic shoe exports amount to US$2 billion, with an export volume of 270,000 tons, accounting for 20% of the country’s plastic shoe exports, and an average annual output value of nearly 40 billion yuan for the footwear industry. Among them, the average annual export of plastic shoes in Rongcheng District is about $1.3 billion, accounting for about 65% of the city, and the annual output value of the footwear industry is nearly 27 billion yuan, accounting for 67.5% of the city.
However, with the increasingly fierce market competition in recent years, the shoe industry is also facing the problems of low industrial cluster level and low product technology content. In order to break through the bottleneck of the shoe industry itself, improve the overall level of the industry, and achieve industrial transformation and upgrading, last year, Rongcheng District guided shoe enterprises to actively participate in the revision of the national standardization of plastic shoes, promote the construction of quality inspection stations for plastic products, support the innovation and development of technology in the shoe industry and promote enterprise brand building, enhance the scale and grade of the shoe industry, and help Jieyang “China’s plastic fashion shoe capital” regional brand to be stronger. The regional brand of “China’s Plastic Fashion Shoe Capital” will be strengthened and enlarged.
It is worth mentioning that local enterprises have consistently increased their R&D investments in recent years. By introducing automated production equipment and intelligent management systems, they have continuously improved production efficiency and product quality. Meanwhile, Rongcheng District has actively established industry-university-research collaboration platforms, forging long-term partnerships with multiple universities and research institutions to promote the application of new materials and processes in footwear production.
In terms of market expansion, local enterprises have strengthened their presence in traditional foreign trade markets while actively exploring new sales channels such as cross-border e-commerce, leveraging digital marketing strategies to enhance brand influence. Government authorities have also facilitated broader collaboration platforms for businesses by organizing participation in domestic and international trade fairs and hosting shoe design competitions.
With the deepening development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the shoemaking industry in Rongcheng District is ushering in new opportunities for growth. In the future, the district will continue to advance the industry toward intelligent, green, and high-end directions, further improve industrial chain support, cultivate internationally competitive shoemaking brands, and lay a solid foundation for Jieyang to establish itself as a globally influential base for plastic shoe manufacturing.
